About CenVaNet
CenVaNet’s core mission is to achieve improved health system performance through a
collaborative approach to care delivery and care management. It is a Richmond-based
limited liability company owned jointly by approximately three-hundred (300) community-based
physicians and Central Virginia Health Network,
www.cvhn.com,
which consists of nine (9) not-for-profit hospitals.
CenVaNet’s hospital owners include Bon Secours Richmond Health System, Community
Memorial Hospital (South Hill), Rappahannock General Hospital (Kilmarnock), Sheltering
Arms Rehabilitation Hospital (Richmond), Southside Community Hospital (Farmville), and
University of Virginia Health System (Charlottesville).
CenVaNet has broad and deep roots in the provider community and was established in 1996
as a managed risk contractor. Currently there are approximately nine hundred (900) physicians
active in the CenVaNet provider network. Its focus evolved along with the health care market and
CenVaNet has since become a leader in the delivery of a full continuum of services ranging from
the provision of disease and care management, to health and wellness programs, as well as a
state-of-the-art nurse call center.
In 1999, CenVaNet was requested by its provider membership to develop a secure platform across
which authorized physicians could share clinical results. CenVaNet, in collaboration with Virginia
Urology, founded MedVirginia in 2000 to advance the adoption and use of health information
technology for the enhancement of quality, patient safety and efficiency.
Since its inception, MedVirginia’s vision has been the creation of the most electronically connected
medical community in the U.S. It took a tremendous stride toward that vision with the January 2006
launch of MedVirginia Solution
(SM), a secure health information exchange providing on-line access to
patient-centric, integrated clinical data from hospitals, labs, pharmacies and physician practices.
This milestone places MedVirginia on a short list of community-based health information exchanges
(HIEs), also known as regional health information organizations (RHIOs), that are operationally "live"
within the U.S. For more information on MedVirginia visit
